Welcome to Mandevian.com, the Students Portal of MDI! “No one can resist an idea whose time has come” – Victor Hugo The idea for a Students Portal has been discussed for many years now and it was time that the idea saw the light of the day. We the Class of 2009 have taken the onus for ensuring that the idea gets implemented and that too in grand style during our stay at MDI. The ever increasing need for networking amongst all ManDevIans and that too at all times meant that we had to broaden our vision at the very outset from an intranet portal to an online portal. Once we had made our mind to go online, the broad framework for the portal was finalised and technology for implementation was identified. But then the major challenge was to get it developed. The choice was between developing it in house or shelling out money from our pockets to get it developed by someone else.
With the presence of IT studs in the batch we were sure that it was a task manageable by the Student Community itself. And soon we got a couple of enterprising students who were ready to take charge of the entire development. Once people were on board it was just matter of few weeks before we got this portal up and running.
Now coming to the portal, as the domain name itself suggests its meant for all “ManDevIans” – past, present and to some extent ManDevIans of the future too.
This portal provides features like Email, Discussion Forum, Photo blog, Campus news, Gallery, Calendar, Polls etc besides providing the details of the various student bodies, events, clubs and their activities. And with we ManDevIans as both the developers and users, sky is the limit as far as additional features are concerned.
The portal will cover an entire range of information so that no ManDevIan ever feels out of touch with life on campus. Be it serious stuff like Academics & Mess Menu or other even more serious issues like latest info circulating on the campus grapevine, status updates of Sharmaji/Jhaji/Arcus, scorecards of Football/Cricket matches held between seniors and juniors the portal will be home to all the info that makes our stay@MDI so exciting. Besides this all the creative people (read faffers n spammers) have a great chance to take their activities online. :) Jokes apart the intentions behind this initiative are honourable, the effort is honest and the outcome we believe is earnest. Only time will tell whether this small step by the PG07 batch would turn into a giant leap for the entire ManDevIan family.
We strongly believe it will coz this is an idea whose time has come! :) But one thing is for sure, this portal is our way of saying “Thank You” to our beloved institution which provides us two of the best years of our lives and memories for a lifetime!
