The story exclusively covers the Energy Management Program at MDI and the contribution made in this field by Dr. Atmanand who is the Chairpersom of this program. MDI continues to expand the portfolio of courses it runs to prepare Change Masters and Thought Leaders of the future.

This unique MBA programme has a 70% focus on general management and 30% on power and energy. The novelty is the general management component. But the programme also ensures exposure to the power sector by sharing national and international best practices. Field visits are crucial for this, particularly in understanding subjects like power distribution. A recent visit to Gujarat gave the participants exposure to energy-efficiency measures, running on a cooperative basis, in rural areas.

“We revise the course curriculum every year based on industry requirements and participant feedback,” says Dr Atmanand, Chairperson of the Energy Management Programme at MDI. The programme is divided into four parts, with the final term devoted to the energy sector. Courses include power management, operations and audit; power trading; and distribution system management. After the residential programme (12 months), the final three months are devoted to live projects. “The engineers have to pick up data from their own grids and analyse it in the light of the models we discussed in class,” explains Dr Atmanand.
